Finance forum > Getting a mortgage on an overseas property
I've read all the articles which suggest when you are searching for a mortgage you should shop around to get the best deal. In an ideal world that's what I would have done.
In reality, buying a property in Spain in my case was so complicated that I didn't really want to add to the difficulty. Anyway, attitudes to banks here are much the same as they were in Britain 20 or more years ago. I mean, I actually know my bank manager!
With mortgage rates being so low in the euro zone it perhaps wouldn't have made that much difference if I'd shopped around. But maybe somebody can tell me different.
Has anybody requested and received a mortgage on an overseas property from a UK lender? What's the attitude of British banks and building societies to properties abroad? For instance, how do they deal with the fact that you cannot get an official property survey in Spain?
