The future of A Desk In The Sun
With sufficient funding I’d like to considerably extend the forums to create a real expat community, sharing knowledge and experiences. There is software available now which works in a similar way to computer dating which will bring together people with matching interests, background and aspirations. It would be great to use that as the basis of a collection of online communities.
It’s one thing that I’ve learnt from living abroad which is that, even on island as small as Ibiza, people with similar interests can be living nearby and you never meet them. The settling-in process is also hard enough and I’d like to see it eased by this website.
All this is a dream. What will be happening is my book on living and working abroad which I’m writing for The Guardian newspaper and publishers A&C Black. I’ve got a deadline of 1 July 2007. I will be including stories from people who’ve made the move. That could be you. And I need help finding the best sources of information so that the book really will be the definitive guide for people planning to head overseas.
