Analysis of question eight answers
What is your ideal Christmas?
a. With close family in front of the telly
Few nationalities go as over the top about Christmas as the Brits which means you have to make an effort when you live overseas. If your close family’s already abroad with you, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t recreate a bit of Britain. Even if you can’t get British television channels, there are always videos.
b. In a quiet spot away from it all with just my partner
Provided you’re together you could be anywhere. And it’s a lot easier to escape from the festivities abroad if you want to.
c. With all the family – granny, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and dozens of cousins.
That could be difficult. Many people don’t realise that the most expensive time to travel is not during the summer holidays, but just before Christmas. It can be a difficult choice between being broke and being lonely.
d. Raucous with a load of friends
Ex-pats tend to be a sociable bunch, so it should be easy to find a crowd for Christmas. In theory. In practice, an awful lot of people somehow manage to make it back to the UK for the festivities. Just make the most of those who are still abroad with you and you’ll have a good time.
